This is a shameless attempt to save the the most advanced civilization in
history from imminent self destruction by eliminating carbon emission,
dependence on foreign sources of fuel, obesity, hypertension and diabetes.
Cycling accomplishes all those things at once and helps us develop a better
understanding of ourselves, each other and our relationship to the cosmos.

Oh, horse puckey!
I like to ride bikes, have been doing it all my life.
The rest of that crap is just a fringe benefit,
and the blogosphere gives me a chance to share my interior
monologue with virtual rather than imaginary friends.

Time for a little Porn

I had an option this weekend.  A group was doing a 100 mile ride around the county, a chance to ride through every community in the county at a reasonable 17-22MPH pace.  Yawn.  The only time I ride a full century is when I make a mistake during a trip.  I've learned that 60 is pretty much fun, 80 is a test and 100 just a gawdawful pain in the ass.
The other possibility was to while away a couple of hours riding around town and stopping in at the Old Dog Tavern to see their annual vintage bike show/sale.
There was a huge number of old three speeds and cruister bikes,
but this pristine Pinarello track bike was by far the most beautiful.
The finish was so flawlessly blue I felt like diving in.
There was not a scratch, it could never have been ridden anywhere but a velodrome.
This Gitane tandem mixte was an unusual treat.
There were a couple of rare finds in this Pinarello and Austro-Daimler.
The Pinarello had a rare paint scheme the company used for one model, one year.
The Austro was perfect and all original.  It looked like it had never been ridden.
The current owner found it in a pawn shop!
I keep cruising estate sales and thrift shops hoping to stumble onto an original Rene' Herse.
My size of course.
That's about all there was in the field of higher end bikes at the show, but it was still fun
and they always have the flagship from the old time Kalamazoo Bicycle Co.
