I don't know what the rest of the world looks like on June 7th. Here in Kalamazoo it was a day of community mourning. A year after Charles Pickett Jr. plowed through a line of cyclists on a residential street killing 5 and hospitalizing 4 others, the cycling community is still finishing their ride.
Over 300 riders met and donated $20 apiece to ride in a highly publicized charity ride.
There was a mile of silence for the victims at the crash site
where the money collected will help preserve the memory with a permanent
memorial to replace the ghosts bikes currently in place.
It was both a sobering and inspiring opportunity.
I can't believe it has already been a year. Terrible. It's good to see the community of biking folks organized in this way though.
