After the storms, the early morning had darkness enhanced by thick fog. I boot started late and rode through the heat. Highway 50 is not a bad ride, as highways go. There is ample, well paved shoulder and the hills are graded down a bit. After an afternoon and morning , I was ready for the shade and lower troops of the Katy trail.
This is a shameless attempt to save the the most advanced civilization in
history from imminent self destruction by eliminating carbon emission,
dependence on foreign sources of fuel,obesity, hypertension and diabetes.
Cycling accomplishes all those things at once and helps us develop a better
understanding of ourselves, each other and our relationship to the cosmos.

I like to ride bikes, have been doing it all my life.
The rest of that crap is just a fringe benefit,
and the blogosphere gives me a chance to share my interior
monologue with virtual rather than imaginary friends.
This brings back memories my rides from 45 years ago, when I would sometimes ride a bit on Highway 50 on a 100 mile early season fixed gear ride from Raytown to Warrensburg and back. Not the most interesting road to be on, but it had less snow on it than other country roads during Jan/Feb.

ReplyDeleteNo, US50 is not an interesting ride, but it did help get some mileage in the rear view.
