This is a shameless attempt to save the the most advanced civilization in
history from imminent self destruction by eliminating carbon emission,
dependence on foreign sources of fuel, obesity, hypertension and diabetes.
Cycling accomplishes all those things at once and helps us develop a better
understanding of ourselves, each other and our relationship to the cosmos.

Oh, horse puckey!
I like to ride bikes, have been doing it all my life.
The rest of that crap is just a fringe benefit,
and the blogosphere gives me a chance to share my interior
monologue with virtual rather than imaginary friends.

Thrilled and disappointed

Winter is making it's last hurrah here in Western Michigan.  I went out for breakfast this morning and, since we had just received a few inches of snow, decided to take the scenic route home.

I was hoping to find some fresh snow over a crusty ice surface on the local MUP.  That would create an energizing winter single track ride on the studded tires.
To my surprise I found it perfectly clear and freshly plowed.  Only a few joggers and dog walkers were using it, but the parks department had put out the effort and made a welcome environment for riding on any tires.
Kudos to the city again for rising above expectations.
