This is a shameless attempt to save the the most advanced civilization in
history from imminent self destruction by eliminating carbon emission,
dependence on foreign sources of fuel, obesity, hypertension and diabetes.
Cycling accomplishes all those things at once and helps us develop a better
understanding of ourselves, each other and our relationship to the cosmos.

Oh, horse puckey!
I like to ride bikes, have been doing it all my life.
The rest of that crap is just a fringe benefit,
and the blogosphere gives me a chance to share my interior
monologue with virtual rather than imaginary friends.

Kalamazoo Mayorathon

Our mayor, Bobby Hopewell, is an enthusiast.  That is a comforting thought all by itself.  This year he decided to host a ride of his own, the "Mayorathon" using the 26.2 mile route run during the annual marathon foot race.
The ride itself was an impromptu gathering created on short notice, most of us would not have known about it at all if the local club president, Zolton Cohen, hadn't sent out an e-mail to let us all know.
I know I don't watch the local news very often, but they showed up to cover the event as well.
About 30 people showed up to spend a sweltering (by Michigan standards) 80 degree ride around town.

It was a good day of conversation at a pace which was relaxed even by my lazy standards.
To go with the good company and jovial atmosphere we received  some traffic support from a local EMS company who donated their ambulance for the afternoon.  That's a perk from riding with the mayor.
It can't be anything but good to have an enthusiast and advocate in position,
this town is becoming more like Portland every day--without the rain!
