This is a shameless attempt to save the the most advanced civilization in
history from imminent self destruction by eliminating carbon emission,
dependence on foreign sources of fuel, obesity, hypertension and diabetes.
Cycling accomplishes all those things at once and helps us develop a better
understanding of ourselves, each other and our relationship to the cosmos.

Oh, horse puckey!
I like to ride bikes, have been doing it all my life.
The rest of that crap is just a fringe benefit,
and the blogosphere gives me a chance to share my interior
monologue with virtual rather than imaginary friends.

How much easier can it get?

Today looked like Winter's last hoorah. We've had about 10 inches of snow during the past couple of nights. That's more on the ground than we have seen all winter. It's a true testimony of the mild winter we've had in the midwest. We normally get 8 feet of snow and I've been riding around on the skinny tires at least once a week all winter. Well, today was good for the studded tires and I went out to the mall to take advantage of a sale on some ski equipment.

On the way home I stopped for a beer and the bartender, who is accustomed to seeing me on my bike, asked if there was ever a time when I don't ride. I admitted I do use my car 2, maybe 3, times a week. She seemed relieved. Two guys sitting at the bar nearby were talking about how exciting the electric car technology was and how they couldn't wait. Recently, the President expressed his concern over oil prices, he's faced with higher gas prices during an election year. That can't be fair! His opponents are all over it, screaming for natural gas development, more drilling, etc. etc.
I'm just sitting here wondering why I can use so little gas while using less doesn't even occur to others.

  1. Amen to the using less fuel. I couldn't even tell you what its going for around here.

  2. My son was recently faced with another question: " How can you ride a bike in these dangerous conditions?" His answer: "If it's too dangerous to ride, how can it be safe to drive?"
You just gotta wonder what are people thinking?
