This is a shameless attempt to save the the most advanced civilization in
history from imminent self destruction by eliminating carbon emission,
dependence on foreign sources of fuel, obesity, hypertension and diabetes.
Cycling accomplishes all those things at once and helps us develop a better
understanding of ourselves, each other and our relationship to the cosmos.
Oh, horse puckey!
I like to ride bikes, have been doing it all my life.
The rest of that crap is just a fringe benefit,
and the blogosphere gives me a chance to share my interior
monologue with virtual rather than imaginary friends.

It's springtime in Michigan
...and who knows what kind of weather we will find in the morning. It's a bit of a challenge to dress when it's 30 something in the morning and 60 in the afternoon. And let's not talk about snow or rain, they happen interchangeably throughout the day. It is a real relief to get off the studded tires and get the Sam Hillborne out and enjoy riding without the ice. Studded tires provide a lot of freedom when the roads and trails are nearly impassible, but they are so heavy and slow.
The Buena Vista becomes my city ride of choice,
the zippy quick performance is a pleasure on the city streets and the step over frame is a real convenience.
Rain capes become a real convenience in the Springtime. They provide great protection from the elements but open circulation from beneath so you don't get overheated and sweaty. They kinda suck in the wind, but who rides THAT fast on wet pavement?
On the other hand, downwind is a real pleasure with the cape providing the sail to speed you along. Around town I use one made by Cleverhood. It's really a damn nice garment. It has a Houndstooth weave that makes you look over dressed for anything, no matter what else you wear.
It's called the "Electric Houndstooth" because there are reflective threads woven into the fabric that light you up like a giant light bulb rolling along in front of headlights.
It also has a sling bag to store it when the rain quits so you can stuff it into a bag, or just throw it on your back as a light backpack. The bag can't be counted on for carrying anything else but it's a convenient option.

Capes and ponchos rule for commuting, in my opinion. Nice to see you have the lovely Cleverhood.
ReplyDeleteI also have a Grunden's rain cape for touring, but the Electric Houndstooth is the Bomb for city riding.
