This is a shameless attempt to save the the most advanced civilization in
history from imminent self destruction by eliminating carbon emission,
dependence on foreign sources of fuel, obesity, hypertension and diabetes.
Cycling accomplishes all those things at once and helps us develop a better
understanding of ourselves, each other and our relationship to the cosmos.

Oh, horse puckey!
I like to ride bikes, have been doing it all my life.
The rest of that crap is just a fringe benefit,
and the blogosphere gives me a chance to share my interior
monologue with virtual rather than imaginary friends.

Some odd things I would miss

Riding a bike always brings you a little closer to the things you wouldn't have noticed in a car.
 Sometimes weird and disgusting
like this hairpiece (or scalp) lying on the snow.
Or something really heartwarming like this dog with his "wheelchair" I ran across in
 Union Square while in Boston.
He had developed an unusual condition which cased his lower vertibrae to fuse together.
The owners were given the options of euthanasia, a very expensive and risky operation or extra care.
Given his advanced age and the danger of the operation, they chose care and the old dog seemed completely happy with the decision.
Then there was this icon, parked at a coffee shop in mythical Kalamazoo.
It's one of three Batmobiles from the 1966 TV series.
 Still in perfect condition
and as cool as ever.
