This is a shameless attempt to save the the most advanced civilization in
history from imminent self destruction by eliminating carbon emission,
dependence on foreign sources of fuel, obesity, hypertension and diabetes.
Cycling accomplishes all those things at once and helps us develop a better
understanding of ourselves, each other and our relationship to the cosmos.

Oh, horse puckey!
I like to ride bikes, have been doing it all my life.
The rest of that crap is just a fringe benefit,
and the blogosphere gives me a chance to share my interior
monologue with virtual rather than imaginary friends.

Kudos to the County Road Commission again!

Around here it has become a regular thing for bikeophiles to compliment and thank the local governments for their efforts to accomodate cyclists.   And here we are again.  The county road commission came through with a presentation from the SW Michigan Planning commission concerning liabilities involved in various designs concerning non-motorized traffic.  It's too bad the power-point presentation isn't available, but the Attorney General didn't want to run the risk of influencing the future by placing it on the internet.
So I will give you a sneak peak at some of the presentation.
It started with an overview of design features we have found desirable for non-motorized existence.
The presentation developed very logically from the theories supporting design features,
as well as supporting statistics
and detailed diagrams to explain the statistical evidence which

supported the conclusion that the local agencies and jusrisdictions will be able to defend their decisions against objections and lawsuits in the future.
I am just really impressed that the County would go to this length to educate their engineers, commissioners and executives.
Considering the back-biting, fueding and outright persecution I hear of in other areas,
I feel really fortunate to live where the local officials are so actively and thoroughly pursuing these developments.
