This is a shameless attempt to save the the most advanced civilization in
history from imminent self destruction by eliminating carbon emission,
dependence on foreign sources of fuel, obesity, hypertension and diabetes.
Cycling accomplishes all those things at once and helps us develop a better
understanding of ourselves, each other and our relationship to the cosmos.

Oh, horse puckey!
I like to ride bikes, have been doing it all my life.
The rest of that crap is just a fringe benefit,
and the blogosphere gives me a chance to share my interior
monologue with virtual rather than imaginary friends.

Recovery party

Every year our local bike club holds a party to celebrate the past season and prepare for the coming year. It's an evening of camaraderie especially good for those to discuss the goals or adventures they reached last year and plan for the coming. Most years this has been held at a member's home and turns out to be the largest social event of the year.

Time is spent on the success and frustrations of the racing team, competitive joking among the spandex hamsters while the advocates plot strategies for influencing the
local governments in the coming year. All done while huddled over beer provided by a local biermeister and enjoying a potluck of snacks we would not normally allow in our houses.
Prizes are awarded to those deserving and being humiliated and a feeling comfort is developed from being among those with a similar brand of insanity.
And,after a few beers,

we get fumble about for our shoes before finding our way home.
