This is a shameless attempt to save the the most advanced civilization in
history from imminent self destruction by eliminating carbon emission,
dependence on foreign sources of fuel, obesity, hypertension and diabetes.
Cycling accomplishes all those things at once and helps us develop a better
understanding of ourselves, each other and our relationship to the cosmos.

Oh, horse puckey!
I like to ride bikes, have been doing it all my life.
The rest of that crap is just a fringe benefit,
and the blogosphere gives me a chance to share my interior
monologue with virtual rather than imaginary friends.

A winning streak is over.

The longest winning streak in the known history of cycling has finally ended.  On July 4th something ended that I thought never would.  It was fourty years ago, that I started riding bikes, I have had experiences all over the country, commuting, touring and just ripping around like a spandex hamster.  I have always used my bikes for utilitarian purposes and not only have I not broken a bottle of beer I have never, until July 4th, 2011 broken an egg.

I can no longer look the cashiers in the eye and say "never broke an egg."  It's really hard to deal with.
Well, it was important to me.

  1. Never a bottle of beer huh? Let alone an egg. I got back in to riding a little over a year ago at the rip age of 49 mostly for exercise and to commute to work about 14 mile round trip.

Anyway shortly after buying the new bike and getting some great help from the LBS I decided they earned a reward so I rode across the street and got a 12 pack for them. I literary didn't make it back across the street and the 30 feet to their driveway before I dropped the 12 pack and had a fountain of beer spraying every which way.

So look at the bright side you still have one record in tack!!! :)

  2. I guess I am truly blest. Lapping up all that beer must be hard on the tongue!
