This is a shameless attempt to save the the most advanced civilization in
history from imminent self destruction by eliminating carbon emission,
dependence on foreign sources of fuel, obesity, hypertension and diabetes.
Cycling accomplishes all those things at once and helps us develop a better
understanding of ourselves, each other and our relationship to the cosmos.

Oh, horse puckey!
I like to ride bikes, have been doing it all my life.
The rest of that crap is just a fringe benefit,
and the blogosphere gives me a chance to share my interior
monologue with virtual rather than imaginary friends.

Broken Shimano Nexus Hub V-The final chapter

This is the end!
When you get here you are done.
The part that broke,

is no longer produced and Shimano has no suggestion for a replacement.  So the rest of this stuff

is now useless and the only option is to buy a new unit and use that until it breaks.  A great example of planned obsolesence.  Buy another? Yeah but this time it will be a Sturmey Archer.

  1. You should check with Aaron's Bike Repair in Seattle or Harris Cyclery in Newton MA and see if the have the part or know of a substitute.

  2. Un fortunately, that part is no longer made. My LBS orders dorect from shimano, everything I could want for that hub is available except that retaining ring and they offer no substitute or suggestion. Pretty cool, hugh?
