This is a shameless attempt to save the the most advanced civilization in
history from imminent self destruction by eliminating carbon emission,
dependence on foreign sources of fuel, obesity, hypertension and diabetes.
Cycling accomplishes all those things at once and helps us develop a better
understanding of ourselves, each other and our relationship to the cosmos.

Oh, horse puckey!
I like to ride bikes, have been doing it all my life.
The rest of that crap is just a fringe benefit,
and the blogosphere gives me a chance to share my interior
monologue with virtual rather than imaginary friends.

Just a week later...

Last Thursday was an unexpected pleasure and Michigan came back to grab it's dominance over Summertime.  Thursday, one week after 70 degree weather, it began to snow.  There was a little snowfall in the morning, by noon it had melted from the pavement so riding was pretty much normal in the afternoon.

Predictably, the snow stayed on the grass, the wind picked up all afternoon and the temperatures were going to drop.

And they dropped all night, the wind
fueled the lake effect machine
so we woke up to this and the snow pummeled us all day.
Not to be intimidated by the weather, I went out to run a few errands, which became fewer by the pedal stroke.  But hey, I got out there and you can't ignore the extra smugness that fills your head.
On the way home, I stopped for a drink at Buddy's pizza.
In the space of (OK) two drinks the ride was sugar coated and looked like a sick tree ornament out there in the middle of a thriving snow globe.
