I was in Illinois over the weekend taking care of family business and, while at a pit stop on the Chicago tollway, I notice this strange dumpster.
Bikes only, no trash.. I looked inside and, of course, there were no bikes, only trash. That all hit me as strange but going inside
I found this display up in the open mall
I'd never seen or heard of this before. Apparently they are looking for bikes to be refurbished and sent to third world countries. I suppose that's noble enough, but it seems an odd response considering the state of things in this country. After all isn't it more reasonable to try to promote cycling here amidst our obese, diabetes ridden, depression troubled populace rather than promote it elsewhere?
Just me being cynical again I guess.
This is a shameless attempt to save the the most advanced civilization in
history from imminent self destruction by eliminating carbon emission,
dependence on foreign sources of fuel, obesity, hypertension and diabetes.
Cycling accomplishes all those things at once and helps us develop a better
understanding of ourselves, each other and our relationship to the cosmos.
Oh, horse puckey!
I like to ride bikes, have been doing it all my life.
The rest of that crap is just a fringe benefit,
and the blogosphere gives me a chance to share my interior
monologue with virtual rather than imaginary friends.
