Yesterday I was trapped inside working. While working away on my laptop, developing a proposal for a client, I had the news on in the background on the TV. That morning CNBC was interviewing Boone Pickens, the Texas bazillionaire oil tycoon who has been touting his plan to eliminate foreign oil dependency. They threw in a teleconference with Michigan senator Stabenow who was excited about the General Motors rebirth and IPO. Both went on about the conversion of vehicles from petroleum to natural gas and the development of new electric cars and hybrids, their effect on oil consumption, the environment, global warming, etc. (yawn) etc. Nobody even thought to mention the idea of just driving cars less often.
I want to see a press release someday that goes something like this:
Scientists have announced the development of a bio-mechanical device which can be used to power small vehicles. The device consumes, completely degrades and processes organic compounds for fuel and creates no harmful emissions. It has a self diagnostic feature which repairs most malfunctions over night and adjusts its horsepower output according to historical usage. The engine has the capability of powering a small vehicle at speeds in excess of 60 miles per hour. It has been extensively tested in cities throughout Europe and Asia and been found capable of replacing up to 75% of auto usage in metropolitan areas. It is currently awaiting approval in the US.
Oops! There I go trying to save us from ourselves again.
Just came across your blog, and am really enjoying your accounts and observations. This description of a new sustainable vehicle made me laugh. It's all so truly overlooked by millions daily.
ReplyDeleteThanks, it is amazing that the obvious seems beyond everybody's grasp!
