Driving,Parking, Black Friday Yuck!!

Black Friday.   I had to help put Kohl's into a profitable position for the year.  Since I'm  remodeling my bathroom, I will need new towels and they are practically giving them away.  Damn, I don't normally get involved but there I was.  I decided to drive, thinking that the towels, shirts and ties I intended to buy would be awkward and bulky to carry on a bike.  How dumb.  I spent nearly 45 minutes circling parking lots before finding a space 2 1/2 blocks from the store.  I could have parked my bike at the door.
      Apparently I don't learn.
A few weeks ago, my son and I went to a concert.   I decided I didn't want to deal with the traffic at night when the concert finished, so I drove.  We left early to get a good spot and my son said he was surprised I even wanted to drive since it was only 5 miles away.   Well, we got a good spot close to the auditorium, but when we left the concert we were trapped.  It took more than an hour to get off the college campus.  Again, we could have parked our bikes at the door and been home in half the time it took to leave the campus.
You'd think I would learn, but even after 38 years of urban cycling I still am occasionally caught in the myth that the automobile is convenient.
